Geneva Inez Cox was born June 14, 1925 in Sturgis Kentucky, to loving parents Flora Gertrude Johnson-Reynolds and Herry Reynolds. Both parents preceded her in death as well as her son Victor Michael and granddaughter Wendy Smith.
The family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, where Geneva attended and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School. She attended IUPUI for a short time. Geneva established employment at Indiana University Hospital as a Unit Secretary; where she retired after 34 years of service. Geneva excepted the Lord, Jesus Christ, under the leadership of Bishop Willie Lee of Christ Temple Church. It was there she met and married Virgil Cox. Three children were born from that union. When that union ended, she met and married Francis Smith and another child was born.
Geneva had a keen sense of fashion and always presented herself as a lady as she kept up with the latest style. She loved her high heels and pretty dresses. Her determination to give everybody a Christmas present was extraordinary, even when she sometimes couldn’t afford them. She loved cooking big meals on Sundays and on every occasion. Her decorating skills were unique, as she decorated for every holiday. She cared for her mother during her elderly years until her passing in 2000.
Geneva departed this earthly life on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the tender age of 91. She leaves to cherish three children Virgil Cox III (Ann), Pamela Johnson, and Mark Bradford Smith (Debbie); grandchildren Alesia Jefferson, Victor Flynn, Virgil Cox IV, Tiffany Robinson, Anthony Anderson, Kimberly Smith, Mark Smith, Ciera Smith, and Whitney Smith; 34 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren, as well as her longtime companion Herman Jones and a host of friends.
