Gene Edward Crafton, age 89, of Greenfield, Indiana passed away Saturday, September 7, 2019 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born to the late Claude Crafton and Helen (Burkholtz) Hasse on June 20, 1930 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Gene graduated from Carmel High School, class of 1948. He retired from Allison Transmission in 1992. Gene was a member of Brookville Road Community Church and enjoyed playing golf, playing cards, and traveling. Gene was an avid sports fan and he loved the Cincinnati Reds, Chicago Cubs, and IU Basketball. He also loved watching old westerns on TV.
Gene is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mildred Crafton of Greenfield, IN; his children, Tom Crafton (Maryanne) of Winter Haven, FL, Diane Shackelford (Tim) of Indianapolis, IN, Debbie Hyatt of New Whiteland, IN, and Jerry Crafton (Peggy) of Winter Haven, FL; his step-children, Linda Colclazier (Dave) of Indiana, Don Brown (Kay) of California, and George Brown (Marcia) of Indiana; 16 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Indiana Funeral Care – Greenwood Chapel entrusted with cremation. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019 with visitation at 11:00 a.m. and a service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Brookville Road Community Church – 7480 US 52 New Palestine, Indiana 46163. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorial donations to the American Cancer Society or Brookville Road Community Church in Gene’s memory.
