Garold (Gary) Arthur Shields, 71, of Indianapolis, passed away Friday, December 21st, 2018 after his five-year battle with cancer. Gary is survived by his wife of fifty years, MaryAnn Shields, Three children, Mitch Shields, Mike Shields, (Cindy Shields), Gale Shields, Four Grandchildren, Michelle Toscano, (Anthony Toscano), Taylor Shields, Katie Shields, Cody Shields and two Great-Grandchildren, Norah Toscano, and Bodhi Toscano as well as his four sisters, Winifred Wulf, Myrna Percifield, Shirley Perry, Marcy McGlothlin and his brother, Albert (Sonny) Shields.
Gary was preceded in death by his father and mother Charles and Elizabeth Shields, and his siblings Charles (Ivan) Shields, Kenneth Bardell, and Linda Shields.
Gary was a veteran of the Vietnam war, serving from 1967 to 1968. Gary loved bass fishing, often competing in tournaments with his best friend, Jack Hope and his nephews, Robert (Bob) Locke, and Dennis Perry. Gary was happiest when spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 28th at Indiana Funeral Care Greenwood located at 2433 East Main Street, Greenwood, IN 46143. Visitation will be held from 2:00PM to 3:30PM with services immediately following. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
