
Faye Cassandra Grimes was born on July 28, 1951 to Mary H. Grimes and the late Jesse Grimes in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Faye was affectionately known as “Sandy” to her relatives, (short for Cassandra.)
She completed her elementary and secondary education in the Indianapolis Public School system and later graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in May 1974. Faye obtained a Master of Science degree in Education in May 1978 from IUPUI.
Faye taught elementary education for over 30 years in the Indianapolis Public School System, schools #50, #47, and retired from #60.
A woman of many skills, “Sandy” was an outstanding seamstress, quilt maker artist, and cook. She loved creating her own quilt designs and she also loved gardening as a hobby.
Faye was well traveled during her lifetime, and visited over 10 countries, including, Brazil, Spain, Italy, The Netherlands and England. She also visited the Virgin Islands.
One of the highlights of her life was when Faye was a delegate in the Democratic National Convention in 1972 in Miami, Florida.
“Sandy” professed a strong faith in God as a young adult, and made sure her son Joseph (Haley) attended church regularly when he was growing up.
Faye departed this earthly life on July 11, 2015 and leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Joseph Ra (Tenille), mother, Mary H. Grimes, brother, Milburn Earl “Hank” Grimes, a granddaughter, Nahailey Ra, plus a host of relatives, friends, and neighbors.
