A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at South Calvary Missionary Baptist Church at 12:00, with visitation from 10-12.

Mr. Eugene (Hamp) Hampton went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 25, 2014 at the age of 85, and just 19 days short of what would have been his 86th birthday.

Eugene Hampton was the son of James W. and Mary E. Hampton. He was born October 14, 1928 in Dayton, Ohio.

Eugene attended the public school system in Dayton, OH where he graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School.  Shortly after leaving high school, in 1952 he entered the United States Army where he served our country for three years until 1955. Eugene was united in Holy Matrimony to Betty Thomas and had their only child Patricia (Hampton) Manuel in Columbus, Ohio.  Eugene gathered his family and moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where he started his own business (Hamp’s Trading Post) in 1959. Eugene gave his life to Christ at an early age and attended Good Samaritan Baptist Church.  Eugene loved playing the sport of pool checkers also known as checker pool and had been a member of AmericanPool Checker Association. He hosted several pool checker tournaments over the years in Indianapolis and had also traveled to various states playing in checker tournaments where he achieved the sports highest designation “Top Master” in pool checkers.

Eugene was preceded in passing by his wife, Betty Hampton, brother, James Wesley III, granddaughter, Tynisa S. Manuel.

Eugene leaves to cherish his precious and loving memory his daughters, Patricia Manuel (Ethan W.) and Diane Dickerson; son James Sumpter, three sisters, Thelma Crouch, Lorraine Hayes, and Mary E Heflin all of Dayton, Ohio; three granddaughters, Tashina P. Manuel, Eboni T. Manuel, and April P. Griffith; three great-grandchildren, London Harper, Dedrick Stacker, Tavon Randolph his loving caregiver Brenda Atwood and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
