Eleanor ‘Ellie’ V. McKinstray, 93, of Carmel, Indiana died June 5th at her home surrounded by her loving daughters. She was born in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of James and Val Steen. Her father had been an engineer for the Soo Railroad. While working as a stenographer for the FBI in San Francisco, she met her husband, Joseph L. McKinstray, a Special Agent for the FBI. They later transferred to Belleville, Illinois where they raised their children: Jim, Mary, and Joan. Ellie worked as a secretary at High Mount Elementary School where her children were enrolled. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, son James M. McKinstray, and siblings: Clyde, Ethyl, Jim, and Phyllis. Memorial contributions may be made to the International Wolf Center in Ely, Minnesota.
