
Douglas Ray Graves Sr., age 63, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at his residence. Douglas was born on June 13, 1953 to Lewis and Naomi (Hargis) Graves of Bowling Green KY. Douglas attended Warren Central H.S. of Bowling Green. He also served his country honorably with the United States Army at Ft. Knox KY, Ft. Campbell KY, Ft. Gulick Panama Canal Zone, Ft. Ord CA. from 1972 to 1979. He was also in the National Guard for a while, then the Army Reserves at Camp Atterbury IN as a Drill Instructor. He took part in training the “recalls” for Desert Storm and trained at Ft. Benning GA.
He loved gardening, and preserving his fruit and vegetables. Raspberry Jam and toast was his favorite along with POTS of coffee.
He is survived by his wife, Fredericka Josephine (Jodie) Wilson Graves of Indianapolis, IN; daughters, Lori Anne (Graves) Thornell of Goodlettsville, TN, Michelle Graves of Brazil,IN, step daughter, Anastacia Russel of Indianapolis IN; son, Douglas Ray Graves Jr. formerly of Ft. Bliss, TX, now in Indianapolis IN; grandchildren, Layton Braxton Thornell of Greencastle, Ivory Taylor Thornell of Clarksville TN, Jaylon Eugene Thornell of Indianapolis IN, Blake Richard Hall of El Paso TX, Brea Nicole Graves of El Paso TX; Great Grandchild; Lucas Ashton Vanhise-Thornell of El Paso TX; sisters, Judy Graves Russell and John of Bowling Green KY, Peggy Graves McDonald and Danny of Bowling Green KY, Diane Graves Mooneyhan and Billy of Bowling Green KY, Donna Graves Strode of Bowling Green KY; brothers, Robert Graves, Ronnie Graves of Bowling Green KY and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews scattered around the United States.
