Donald P. Gooden, 78, of Noblesville, IN passed away Friday May 26, 2017, 3:40 pm at home with his wife and children at bedside.  He was born July 31, 1938 to Martha and John Gooden in Lafayette, IN.

He was a graduate of Attica High School, where he was a recognized athlete, and studied Industrial Engineering at Purdue University.  Don served in the Indiana National Guard from 1955-58 and in the United States Army Reserves from 1958-63. He was proud to serve his country.  He was a lifelong Purdue Boilermakers fan who always loved to watch the big game with his family and friends.

Don worked for RCA (GE, Thomson Consumer Electronics) for 42 years in various capacities in assembly operations and in the headquarter offices.  In semi-retirement, he worked for Hamilton Southeastern School Corporation for an additional 15 years.

Don’s loyalty and dedication to a job well done were matched only by his sense of commitment and engaging sense of humor. He cared deeply about others and willingly volunteered his time and service.  He was a member of the Allisonville Masonic Lodge, the Noblesville chapter of the American Legion, and a parishioner at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, where he served in leadership positions on the Vestry and as an usher.  Don remained an active community member.

Don was dedicated to his family and loved them all dearly. Survivors include his wife, Julie; son, Michael (Ellen) Gooden of Brentwood, TN, daughter Heather (Brian) Wente of Noblesville, and four granddaughters: Cameron and Casey Gooden and Delaney and Lydia Wente. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Jane (Ed) Roll of Lafayette, IN, Janna (C.M.) Hocker of Sellersburg, IN, Sandy (James -dec) Gooden of Bethesda, MD, and Jacque (Harold-dec) Gooden of Monticello, IN, as well as many nephews, nieces, and cousins — and his Boston terrier, Lili.  Don and Julie celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on September 21, 2016.

Preceding Don in death were his parents, brothers Billy, James, Lowell and Harold, and sister LaVerne, and his beloved Boston terrier, Buddy.

A true gentleman from another generation, Don embodied deep love of family. He was ever steadfast in life, but more than that he was loving, loyal, and kind. He will be greatly missed.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life for Don will be held Sunday, June 4 at St. Michael’s, 444 S Harbour Dr, Noblesville, IN 46062 with calling between 1:00 – 2:00 pm, service at 2:00 with meal to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael’s Episcopal Church (Noblesville) Capital Fund.

What can I say? Don and I were close friends and I cherish the remembrance of nearly 15 years. My heart goes out to Julie, whom I have known growing up from a young lady into Don’s fabulous wife.
