Diane D. Renihan (April 29, 1952-January 22, 2019)
Diane Renihan (née Duncan), 66, of Indianapolis, Ind., died surrounded by her children and those who loved her. She is survived by her three children: Hilary Heffernan (Mike), Lori Hotel (Dave), Rob Renihan (Jill); and seven (soon to be eight) grandchildren: Xavier & Owen Heffernan, James, Kara & Lucas Hotel, and Audrey & Dean Renihan. She is also survived by her brother, Randy Duncan (Pam). She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Nell and Bob Duncan and brother, Christopher.
Diane leaves a legacy of love, optimism, generosity, creativity and humor. She was unfailingly devoted to her family. Even during the most challenging of times, she demonstrated love and forgiveness. She was ever the optimist and chose to always look at the possibilities instead of the downsides of any situation. She sacrificed her time and energy throughout her life to improve the community around her: Sunday school teacher, Brownie leader, Math Pentathlon director, and Starfish mentor, to name a few.
A creative soul, Diane was a non-traditional traditionalist. She loved to carve out new unique and creative ways to do things. She saw the unrevealed diamond in what appeared to be just a piece of coal to the rest of the world. She leaves behind traditions uniquely her own and comforting in her family’s time of grief. And, oh, the stories! Diane’s humor, silliness, and desire to always look on the bright side of life will continue to live on and be cherished through a gold mine of wonderful memories. This was the legacy she wanted to leave behind.
In true Diane fashion, she requested a non-traditional funeral. Instead of sadness and crying she requested laughter, stories, memory sharing and a big beach-themed party (her favorite place to be on earth). Visitation will take place at Harry Moore/Indiana Funeral Care on Feb. 2, 2019 from 1-3. Party to immediately follow.

I have so many memories of Diane from high school. She had a great distinctive laugh and it was easy to get her going. She was a go-for- the-gusto kid! I can’t remember all of the (innocent) naughtiness we cooked up together, but we sure did have a good time. I am so sad for her and for her family. I will always smile when I remember her. My sincere condolences.

Diane was one of my favorite people and still had a hilarious sense of humor long after our Tudor Hall/Park Tudor days. I love reconnecting on Facebook and will miss her so…what a loss this is. Lots of great memories.

Hi kids,
I didn’t know about your mom until I saw the memorial gift in the Phoenix. So sorry I missed the ‘party’.
We went ‘steady’ most of our senior year, then she went to IU and I went to UK.
I have so many great memories of her. Fortunately we stayed in touch through the years, sharing our
Joys and sorrows.
I last saw her at our 45th reunion. We were the only 2 that showed up, which was fine because we had lots of time to catch up. Hillary had to sit thru most of it – sorry Hillary.
This is a beautiful tribute, and I can’t say it any better than you did, except to say that I loved her, her sense of humor and her determination.
