David Earl DeMaggio, 70, passed away at 7:15 pm Monday, February 11, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his wife and faithful, furry companions. He was born July 21, 1948 in Kokomo, the son of Vincent and Florence (McKinney) DeMaggio, both deceased. He was a 1966 graduate of Kokomo High School. He served two years in the Army, retired after 30 years at Chrysler, and was an accomplished local singer, songwriter, and musician. His most recent venture was with his good friends (Ricky V, Bones, and Tiny) in The Curmudgeon String Band and Medicine Show. During his musical career, he opened for Pink Droyd, Mitch Ryder, Parabelle, Rhino Bucket, and many more. He played more than 2,000 gigs over a 40 year span.
Dave is survived by his wife of 17 years, Brenda DeMaggio. He is also survived by five children (Mona, Demian, Casey, Aleah, and Andrew), two step-children (Alex Abston and wife Abigayle, and Nick Abston and companion Brooke Grider), seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren (Samuel and Michael Abston), a father and mother-in-law (Larry and Julan Schwindt), a brother-in-law (Jim Schwindt), and very special friends (Gary and Marsha Brooks), along with many Facebook buddies. Later in life, Dave found out that he had three half-siblings. He found a real connection with his brother, Brandon.
Per Dave’s wishes, his body will be cremated with no public visitation. A Celebration of Dave’s life will be held at a later date for his closest friends and family. Special thanks go to the staff at St. Vincent Kokomo and Southern Care Hospice. Memorial contributions may be made in Dave’s honor to the Kokomo Humane Society.
