D. Fred Powell, 82, Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on Dec. 28th , 2013. He knew the Lord and is now in paradise.
He was born to David and Reba Powell in Muncie, Indiana on Aug. 14th, 1931 where he lived and graduated from Muncie Central High School and on to Ball State University where he graduated with a B.A. degree and met his bride Patricia Heffron. He went on to teach and coach at Stoney Creek High School in Randolph County Indiana. They later moved to Indianapolis and he went to work for the Indianapolis Life Insurance Company where he had a long career, earning his CLU and eventually retired as Vice President, Director Of Agencies. After retiring they moved to Sun City Hilton head South Carolina where they lived for 12 years before moving back to Indianapolis and residing at Hoosier Village Retirement Community. Fred Loved golfing and taking his sons, sons in laws and grandsons Walleye fishing in Canada.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Pat Powell, Five children, Deborah Howard ( Mike), Jay Powell (Kate), Susan Boots (Jim), Nancy Dicus (Bob), Bill Powell (Barb). Eleven grand children, and three great grand children. He is also survived by his brothers Dick Powell (Nan), and Bill Powell (Sunny).
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Jack Powell and Bob Powell.
Visitation and calling will be Thursday Jan. 2nd from 4:00 to 8:00 pm and Friday Jan 3rd from 10:00 to 11:00 am with the funeral to follow at 11:00 am at College Park Church 2606 w. 96th st. Indpls, In. 46268
Memorials may be sent to the Benevolent fund at College Park Church.

Sorry to hear about Fred. Dad has been keeping us up to date on Fred’s health. I have such awesome memories of Fred and your family. The years we spent in Indianapolis, vacation in Wisconsin Dells. That was a lot of kids when we all were together! Very fond memories! Fred was an awesome man, and great friend to my dad. He will be greatly missed.

I was so sad to read in the paper this morning about Fred. I cannot even picture him without a smile on his face and in his heart. What a wonderful man who made a wonderful life for his family. I will always cherish the memories of the vacations and Indianapolis Life conventions we all went to…singing, laughing. . .fun times. He is catching up on those great times with my parents now.
