Charles Eugene Fritz of Indianapolis passed away July 2, 2017, at the age of 90.
He was born August 15, 1926, one of three children of Eugene and Emma Fritz. He is survived by his wife Anita, son Frederick, daughter Susan Fritz-Kent, brother Harold, and grandchildren Elizabeth and Matthew. Charles and Anita were married for over 63 years, one of the longest blind dates ever!
Charles grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from Ben Davis High School. He was World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a radio operator in the Pacific. After his service, he received a bachelor’s degree from Butler University and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Indiana University School of Law.
He was a successful sole practitioner probate and tax attorney in Indianapolis for over 64 years, still practicing and going into the office 8:30 a.m. every day. He was a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association and was admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court in 1984.
He was also President of Growers Automobile Insurance Association for over 37 years, having served years prior to that on the Association’s Board of Directors. For many years, he was secretary of Grower’s Finance Company, which operated and managed the Indianapolis Farmer’s Market.
Charles was active in giving back to the community, as well. He was a member of the Ovid Butler Society and had served on the board of the Butler Alumni Association. He was an Indiana Freemason and member of the Scottish Rite. He was also a charter member of the Indianapolis Zoo. Prior to Cross & Crown Lutheran Church, Charles and Anita were active members of Third Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, where Charles served many terms as president of the congregation.
Contributions can be made in Charles’ name to the Cross & Crown Lutheran Church memorial fund. Entombment will follow the service at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 9700 Allisonville Rd.

My favorite memory of Uncle Cowboy is telling me that a bear was buried way back in the trees of the yard. He told the story without one hint of it being a “tall tale”! I was young and believed every word. For several visits, I would look towards the trees and not go near them! He finally chuckled and told me that there wasn’t a bear back there- at least he didn’t think so! I was never quite sure~ May God bless your memories, and give all of you His peace and assurance. The victory has been won! Life is eternal when you believe, and the reunion will be so joyous! Love to All, Kim, Peter, and Jenny

Fred,
I read the information about your father in the obituary above. From the description about him, he was a very busy person.
Being a WW II veteran, he was part of the “greatest generation” , all of the veterans and women of that time stepped up to aid in the time of war on two fronts. They did what had to be done. God Bless him and may he rest in peace now. A life lived well and long.
