Beulah Allen was born April 5, 1931 on an Easter Sunday to A.B. Walker I and Mattie Butler.
She survives her parents and is the sole survivor of her younger siblings’ brothers A.B. Walker II, and Edward Walker and sister, Frances Ice.
After graduating high school and turning down an invitation to attend nursing or teaching school, she instead moved to Terre Haute. Here she lived with her two stepsisters, Anna M. Tucker, Fanny Martin and her uncle Hillary Walker. She began immediately working as a day domestic housekeeper.
Later she met and married Beecher Nowlin with whom they had a son Michael.
In later years she would marry John Richard Allen after the death of Beecher.
Among the many jobs Beulah has performed, none have given her more notoriety than her many years as clerk at Doc Jones Drugstore. There she mentored her young customers with authority, as well as, guiding many of their parents, who also received firm moral counseling and lessons of responsible living.
In her semi-retirement she worked over two decades as a Teachers Aid for Vigo County School System, with her Niece Bonnie Uzzell. Although, her last formal retirement job was as the lead cook at the 14th and Chestnut Community Center. She loved this work also. This is where she worked with other senior citizens but had once again an opportunity to mentor a new generation of latch-key children who loved her gracious southern humor but mostly the nutritious home-cooked meals after school or during the summer months.
Beulah leaves to mourn, her son Michael R. Nowlin (Charmaine), four grandsons, Rashawn (Sabrina), Aaron (Kari), Keenan (Megan), Keegan, six great-grandchildren, many, many nieces and nephews, and countless adopted sons and daughters.
Beulah lived the life of a Christian Woman and attended “Church” all her Life. And often encouraged her family and others to do so as well. She was a member of The Church of Christ in her later years. She loved to help others and many of her friends and neighbors received her full attention, as if they were her very own family.
If anyone needed an example of a purpose driven life hers was it. Her only distraction was her love of flowers; but more correctly her love of everything growing.
Services will be held 12:00 Friday, July 12, 2019, at The Church of Christ, 1356 5th Ave Terre Haute. The family will greet visitors from 10:00 until 12:00.

We will truly miss Beulah Allen. My first memories was her working at Doc Jones store. My sister and brothers would come to the store and forget what our mother ordered and she would always tell us what she wanted; so we wouldn’t get in trouble. (Hummm, how did she know that?) And, then give us candy! Ms.Beulah married my Uncle which made her officially a part of our family. With many memories growing up, dinners, holidays and other events it saddens our hearts to see her leave this earthly tabernacle but we know over on the other side many rewards and joys awaits. To Michael and Charmaine we are saddened with you and pray for your peace and comfort during this difficult time.

We will surely miss Miss Beulah’s sweet smile and warm handshake at Life Church where she often visited with Michael and Charmaine. She was always happy to be there and just made the day a little brighter. We are so blessed to have known you Miss Beulah and look forward to meeting you again when we make that journey to sweet Beulah land.

It was a pleasure to see Ms. Beaulah at T he Life Church. She always greeted me with a warm smile and kind words. The love her children displayed for her was a testament to the love showered upon them. I am thankful for the opportunity to have met Ms. Allen and am praying for the peace and comfort of the family.
