Arthur Charles Thomas of Indianapolis, In., passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, June 19, 2018. Art was born on February 3, 1945 to William Arthur and Margery E. Thomas in Bude, England. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 52 years, Bonnie Mona (Kelly) Thomas and his son William (Christi) Thomas and daughter Bonnie Jean (Ivory) McCaskill, sisters Ann (Steven) McNeely, Cindy (Mark) Offenbacker, and Helen “Cookie” Williams. It was the great and special moments with Kate, Natalie, Ivory Denise, Michael, Mitchell, Domonick, Mariah and Makiyah that gave Art pure joy. Art was truly dedicated to God, country, family and fishing. He lived a life with integrity and honesty and was happiest with his family and friends by his side. He was a devoted husband, making sure that his wife was always first in his life. They absolutely adored each other as much or more than the day they were married and were best friends. They raised their children to believe in themselves and to always strive for their dreams. Art coached many teams in the Franklin Township area as the children were growing up. His corky sense of humor and quick wit always brought a smile to those around him.
Art was in the United States Navy for 6 years, then entered the police academy and became a police officer for the Indianapolis Metropolitan District and Lawrence Police Department serving 41 years in law enforcement. After retiring from the Lawrence Police Department, Art continued doing what he loved by serving his community as a security officer for the Lawrence School District. Art served his community and country well.
