
Anna Kathryn (Crawford) Martin
Anna Kathryn (Crawford) Martin died Tuesday November 22, 2016 at the Avon Health & Rehab Center in Avon, IN following a lengthy illness. She was 91. Anna was born on July 7, 1925 at Cale, Martin County, IN to Edgar Lewis Crawford and Lina (Chastain) Crawford. She was adopted by Ted and Gertrude (Everly) Kay and raised in the New Hope, Owen County, IN area. She attended Freedom HS in Freedom, IN. Anna married Warren Austin Martin on February 19, 1945 and was married for sixty-eight years before Warren’s passing in 2013.
She is survived by her three children, Diane (Jim) Austin, Craig (Helen) Martin, and Paula (Mark) Broussard and also by eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Anna was one of the first female police officers employed by the Indianapolis Police Department when she entered the department in 1957. Her badge number was 2296. Anna was promoted to the rank of sergeant and worked in the administration of several IPD Chiefs of Police during her career with much honor and appreciation. Anna loved cooking, needle point, crocheting, and was a very talented lady. She was a giving and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, employee and friend who was loved dearly and is sadly missed. A future private memorial service is planned.
