Alma Condra (Sam), 85 of Fishers, Indiana, passed away September 2, 2016, at Community North Heart Hospital. A celebration of her life will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at Harvest Bible Chapel North Indianapolis, 14550 River Road, Carmel, Indiana, 46033. Visitation will be held at the same location prior to the service 12–2:00 PM.
Alma was born November 5, 1930 in Martinsville, Indiana, to G. Raymond and Hazel Ashley Husk, one of 14 children.
After marrying Ernest Condra on Sept 29, 1949, she followed him and his Army career half way around the world and back. During his 1964 deployment to Korea she started a part-time job that would later turn into a rewarding 35-year career. Starting as a dishwasher, Alma worked her way up to Manager of Food Services for the Lawrence Township School System. Her nickname, “Sam,” was coined in her early days of service so that overwhelmed first-graders could easily remember it. It followed her throughout the rest of her career and beyond. She loved, and was loved by, everyone she encountered. She was also known as “Grandma” to many people beyond her family. After retiring from Lawrence Township, she volunteered at the Fishers Library, was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the VFW Post 7119 and volunteered over 4,000 hours for the Community North Hospital system. Alma was a huge supporter of our armed forces and dedicated countless hours to organizing and shipping care packages to our troops overseas. A life well lived, a life of joy and giving, she gave and received much joy. She will be missed terribly, but we thank God for her life and for her peaceful passing.
Alma loved and was loved by her family and is survived by her husband of nearly 67 years, Ernest Sr., children Ernie Jr. (Ginny), Keith (Dana), Kathy (Greg), grandchildren Kyle (Traci), Bryan (Annie), Misty (Andy), Nicholas (Keely), Lauren (Thatcher), Steve (Alisa), Kia and great-grand children Greyson, Beckett, Emma and Molly. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Velma, Gladys, Gordon, Phyllis, Frank, Janet, Dale, Carol, Marcia, and her beloved dog, Pepper. Preceding her in death are her parents, Raymond and Hazel Husk and brothers and sisters Lloyd, Thelma, Grace, and Donald.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children
