Alan Wade Crawford, 72, of Martinsville and formerly of Fishers, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in Indianapolis on Friday, December 29, 2017. Al was born on May 14, 1945 in Indianapolis and was the oldest son of James Ray and Ilene Crawford. He graduated from North Central High School, Class of 1963. He was a member of the Millersville Masonic Lodge #126 and was a 32nd degree Mason.
Al was first and foremost a family man. He was married for 48 happy years to Vicki L. Crawford and was the father of Frances Herrera (Everardo) of San Antonio, TX; Vicki Mitchell (John) of Indianapolis; and Alison Carr (Andrew) of Martinsville. He was the grandfather of six: James Herrera, 17; Sarah Cleveland (Davis), 25; Jacob Verble, 21; Michael Carr, 8; Gabriel Carr, 5; and Raphael Carr, due shortly. He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother David.
Having lived in Fishers since he was a young man, Al was well known in the area as the owner and operator of Amberglo Kennels, a successful pet boarding and grooming business started by his parents. Other jobs he held over the years include managing a service station and driving a delivery truck. Al was a “gear-head”, enjoying a life-long love of motors and motorsports. He was an avid race fan and built hot rods as a hobby. At the time of his death, he was overseeing the restoration of a ’57 Chevy Bel Air. Other hobbies Al enjoyed include fishing, boating, and raising award-winning Clydesdale horses.
Al, or “Hoss” as he was known by many, was noted for his quick wit and good humor, as well as his positive attitude in the face of his long illness and many medical treatments. He will be remembered as a dedicated and tender husband, a loving dad who could always be counted on for sound advice in hard times, and a generous and faithful friend.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Indiana Funeral Care, Harry W Moore Chapel, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time. Al will be laid to rest at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens following the service.

So sorry for your loss Vicki and family. I’ll never forget leaving an Easter basket and the long driveway Steve walked to deliver it. Great memories with you and Al. I think of you two every time I drive down Allisonville and have often wondered where you live now. May a good man RIP. Stay strong Vicki.

My heart goes out to each of you during this time. I am so sorry for your loss. Al was always a positive and joyful person. I have such good memories of times spent together with Al, Vicki, LeRae, Vicki Ilene, and Alison, along with JR and Ilene & Dave . While I don’t know your kids well, I feel confident you are together a strong and resilient family. May God bless each and everyone of you.
