Willie Lee Price was born to Jessie and John Westly Price in December 13, 1930 in Dean Island, Arkansas. He later moved to Memphis, Tenn. Where he was raised, and educated. He went on to work for Reed Brother Milk Company where he worked from 1949 – 1952. He then joined the Army Feb. 6, 1953 and was active until April 25, 1964. While in the military he received the Good Conduct Medal, The Korean Service Medal, The Bronze Service Star, United Nations Service Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge. After his release from the Army he married the love of his life Eva Jean Ford, they were married 48 years. They moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1964.
Willie enjoyed fishing, collecting guns, and spending time with his family at family gatherings. He was a hard worker and enjoyed working. He loved going to someone’s job. He always said “A man has to work if he wants to eat and a man gotta do what a man gotta do.� He took pride in different positions he worked. He worked for the Indiana Glass Company for 25 plus years. After their closing he got a job at the V.A. in Environmental Services which he worked for 30 plus years until his retirement on January 31, 2012. Willie departed this life on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the age of 81.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jessie and John Westly Price, Eva Jean Price his wife, three sons’ Elbert “Pee Wee� Ford, David and Vitotous Jerome Price. He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Yasmin (BaKari Abdul-Qayyum) of Lansing, MI, Charmaine (Turner) Ashe Jr. of Indianapolis, IN Five sons’ Eugene A. Price, Undra (Sandra) Price, Martino (Zarina) Parsons, all of Indianapolis, IN, Barney Baker and Joe Ford of Memphis, TN. One daughter-in-law Joyce Price of Indianapolis, IN, one sister, Laura Jones and one brother Garrett (Margaret) Jones of Memphis, TN, Four sister-in-law’s Joann and Lilly Mae Ford and Willie Mae Strong all of Indianapolis, IN, and Jackie Benson of Lansing, MI. Eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, Three special friend’s, Pastor David R. Plunkett, Larry Ross and Lionel “Duck� Arnold and a second family known as Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center. And last but not least, one very special care taker, known as Tracy Hilton, whom he grew to love and care for as a daughter.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Harry W. Moore Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46250. with visitation starting at 12 p.m.
