Story Title: Monessen Memories
By: George Essey
I remember the Johns family from a visit to St Michael many years ago and gave us a newspaper picture of the founders of St Michael Syrian Church in Monessen.
I emailed Sam’s obit to some of the church members that might have remembered the Johns family while they were in Monessen. I got the following reply from Louise Essey Zdilla, who is the aunt to His Grace, Bishop BASIL……
“I remember the Johns family, they lived on Knox ave. down from the High School. One of the girls was my age (Gloria), and one daughter lived in McKeesport. a very nice family well known in Ind. and the Orthodox diocese.
Louise”
Eternal rest and may his memory be eternal.

Dear Norma, Janis, Donna and family,
What wonderful memories I have of Sam and your family! Janis was my first friend in Indianapolis and I loved coming over to your house to play and have Syrian food!! I also enjoyed going to Vacation Bible School at St. George’s. He made the best pizza ever. My prayers are with all of you. Love, Mareth
