Date Of Birth: June 12, 1927
Date Of Death: October 22, 2007

Robert Paul “Giddee” Mesalam, 80An extraordinary loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather lost a courageous and tough “match” to cancer on October 22, 2007. He never knew a stranger and welcomed everyone as an “adopted” family member. Bob had a wonderful sense of humor and loved his Dum-Dum suckers, DQ Banana Splits, Long Donuts, and April Fool’s Day. Bob was an avid handball player who has left behind many friends and teammates. Most recently, he was employed with Fleet Care and previously owned the Corner Grocery. He loved all sports, especially watching and supporting his children, grandchildren and all their friends. Everyone knew and loved “Giddee.” As an active member of St. George Orthodox Church, he served as President at the Progressives, President of the Board of Trustees, and Chair of the Building Committee. Additionally, he was a member of the Optimist Club, Tech High School Alumni Association, John Purdue Club, and is an Army veteran of the Korean War. The family would like to thank all of Bob’s physicians, nurses, chaplains, and therapists that cared for, laughed with, and embraced all of us. Survivors include his devoted wife of 56 years and best friend Margie. Loving children include Robert P. Mesalam II, Linda (Tom) Carroll, and Lisa Mesalam, and five adoring grandchildren, Lauren, Heather, Brett, and Paige Mesalam, and Megan Carroll. Arrangements are being held at Harry Moore Mortuary, 8151 Allisonville Road. Visitation is Tuesday, October 23 from 4pm-8pm. The funeral will be held at St. George Orthodox Church on Wednesday, October 24 at 10am. Donations to St.Vincent Oncology Program c/o St.Vincent Foundation or to St. George Orthodox Church.
