Date Of Birth: November 26, 1921
Date Of Death: March 28, 2012

Robert (Bob) Campbell was born on November 26, 1921, to Robert and Naomi Campbell of Jasonville, IN. He was the second of their 3 children, Betty Eimer (deceased) and Dave (Lee), Ironton, OH. After graduating from Jasonville High School, Bob enlisted in the US Army, where he served his country in many campaigns throughout Europe during World War II. He remained in the US Army Reserves until his retirement as a Colonel. Bob also pursued a career with the Indiana State Police (ISP), first as a radio operator, then as a communication technician, where he devoted 40 years to the ISP. Bob also “moonlighted for Sarkis Tarzian as a transmitter technician.
Bob married Helen Pickel in 1946, raising three children together, Beth Straw (Ray), Carmel, IN, Bruce, Greenville, TN, and Mary Johantgen (Walter), Carmel, IN. They were active in their church, Evangelical Community Church (ECC) in Bloomington, IN and enjoyed Bob’s passion for traveling until Helen’s death in 1989. Bob then married a longtime family friend, Mary Lee Bastain, and they continued to enjoy traveling the world. Mary Lee passed away in 2009.
Bob moved to Carmel, IN (Summer Trace) in August of 2011 to be closer to his daughters as his health declined. Bob celebrated his 90th birthday November 26, 2011 with a pizza and cake party attended by family. He said many times how blessed he had been in his 90 years, yet yearned to go home to his Lord. His prayer was answered on March 28.
Bob will be greatly missed by his children; grandchildren, Jason and Ian (Sara) Straw, Gregg and Andrew Campbell and Wolfe and Greta Johantgen; his great-grandchildren, Divina Thrasher, Sunny Dae Straw, Eli Straw-Thrasher, and Kyla and Xander Straw; and his sister-in-law, Bernice Bastain, Jasonville, IN.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at ECC Church, 503 S. High St., Bloomington, IN on April 14 at 2:00 p.m. Please come with a story to share and for fellowship with those who loved him and will miss him.
