Mildred Clampitt Stover 90, of Indianapolis, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, after a fatal fall in her home. She was born on April 20, 1921 in Indianapolis to the late Leonis and Delpha Ann (Todd) Clampitt.
Mildred graduated from Southport High School in 1939. She married James G. Stover (deceased), and together they had three children. From the Southside of Indianapolis the Stover family moved to Zionsville, Indiana and then to Fortville, Indiana where they built and operated the Fortville Dairy Queen for many years. Mildred had an extraordinary amount of energy and a work ethic that must be praised. She also worked in real estate, and continued working into her 80’s by owning and operating the Pendleton Dairy Queen. She had a love for all sports, ballroom dancing and her church, Chapel Hill Methodist Church.
She is survived by her loving companion, Bill Barnhill; daughter Beverly Ann, Coral Gables, Florida; sons, Gary G. (Luanne), Indianapolis and Bill, Coral Gables, Florida; brother, William B. Clampitt (Barbara); sister, Delpha Laverne Bobbett (Herb); grandson, Dustin (Megan) Stover, and two great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Irvin and Norman E. Clampitt.
Funeral Services will be held at Harry W Moore Funeral Care 8151 Allisonville Rd. on Monday July 18, 2011 at 2 p.m. with calling beginning at 11 a.m. until time of the service.

Dear Bev, Gary, Luanne, and Bill,
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. Seeing her radiant smiling face in Friday’s paper brought back instant grand memories of a dear, dear lady for which I have the ultimate admiration and respect. She consistently provided a genuine welcome to us as hormonal teenagers frequenting the infamous Fortville DQ ~ our favorite place to “buzz” in Fortville…ha! ~ or when we’d drop by her gorgeous home. She made THE best lunchmeat sandwiches, prepared in seconds, when we’d arrive without notice. Obviously her love is what made them so special!
I can still remember cheering to the MVHS school song and Mildred was always right in front of me with her million dollar smile and making me feel like everything was perfect. In those days, it was!
I lost my father and brother six years ago and I understand the emotional loss you are enduring. I had an angelic friend explain that knowing they were now in heaven without pain, I couldn’t possibly ask them to return to the suffering they experienced on earth. Those words and God’s promise in John 3:16 provides a peace that helps me get through each day… but I’d still give anything to have one more hug from each of them. 🙂
Please know you will all be in my prayers throughout the difficult days ahead. You are incredibly blessed to have had such a loving, devoted person in your lives. God bless each of you.

Bill, as I sit here thinking about your Mom I am reminded how much she emulated the kind of woman I wanted to be when we were growing up. I always admired her strength and positive determination. Her wonderful energy will be greatly missed. Please know how much I love you and wish I could be there with you. I am not sure how we grew so far apart, but you are in my thoughts and prayers always.
