Michael “Dink� Chitwood died Friday, May 11, 2012 at home in Greenwood surrounded by his family. He was born September 24, 1940 in Indianapolis to Bessie (Walker) and Ernest Chitwood. He grew up in Scottsville, Kentucky and returned to Indianapolis in 1958.
He retired in 2005 from JMC Engineers & Associates, Inc. in Culver, Indiana, where he had the best boss ever (Mike Overmyer).
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Dorothy Brown, Walcie (Wally) Douglas, Kathleen (Kack) Tinsley, Wayne Chitwood; and best friend, Ronnie Douglas.
He is survived by his wife, Kay (Parrott) Chitwood; children, Randall S., Michele D., and Michael W. (Susan) Chitwood; grandchildren, Bess (Jeff) Carey, Cody, Blake, and Brooke Chitwood; great-grandson, Preston Carey; and brother, Bobbie Chitwood.
The family would like to express their thanks to Jim Buis, Norm House, Bob Speedy, Jerry McQueeney, Sheila Denman, Janet Keene, and Nita and Bud Carson for their continued friendship and visits with Dink.
There will be no visitation or services per his request. There will be a casual celebration on Thursday, May 17, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. at Pipers Grand Manor, 2130 W. Southport Rd.
Dink was the #1 fan of Indiana Elite Travel Baseball (formerly Indiana Trojans) of which he seldom missed a game. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Indiana Elite Baseball, 3707 Fountain View Drive, Greenwood, IN 46143.
