Lawrence C. ApleyPassed away May 25, 2005. Born January 19, 1923, his parents wereLawrence C. and Hazel D. Apley. He was born and raised in Indianapolis. Mr. Apley served in World War II with the 147th. Armored Engineers, arriving in England on his 21st. birthday. He was in major battles including the Battle of the Bulge. For these he received 5 Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart, WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct, European Theater Medal, American Campaign Medal, 2 Presidential Unit Citations, combat infantryman’s badge and honorable service lapel button WWII. On his jaunt, the unit released many Russian prisoners from a concentration camp in Eastern Germany. Not receiving all earned medals, he was presented by Congresswoman Julia Carson on May 16, 2005 the medals he didn’t get after 60 years. He was with the US Postal Service 30 years, retiring in 1977 from the Brightwood Station.He married Margaret Boffing of Riverside, California and recently celebrated their 58th anniversary. He is survived by his wife, 2 sons, Lawrence L. and Dale L. Apley, 2 grandchildren and a brother Neal Apley.He loved his life and the outdoors, enjoying camping and boating with the family. He was a member of the V.F.W. and national Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges.Services will be at Harry Moore Family Mortuary, Lawrence Chapel with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery. Calling will be Saturday, May 28th. 4:00 to 9:00 PMand one hour prior to services on Tuesday, May 31, at 11:00 AM
