Story Title: Happy 50th Anniversary
By: Brian Trennepohl
Dear Mom and Dad,
I wish it were possible for me to be with you for this special occasion. That not being the case, let me try to put my thoughts into words.
God has used you in innumerable ways in my life. Your self-sacrificing spirit, your perseverance, and your ability to make the most of a difficult situation have always spurred me on. Your dedication to a task and determination not to quit have inspired me. Your love has sustained me.
Growing up, I never realized how much time and money you sacrificed for our family. Today I remember all the trips to the Riviera Club (summer and winter), help with our paper routes, Little League, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, times up at the lakes, Heritage (with a multitude of trips to and from school), Bob Jones, all the cars that you’ve loaned to me and maintained for me, financial support during all these years in Spain, and all the favors that you’ve done for me all along the way. Of course there are a myriad of other things that I can’t recall. All those imprecise recollections that continue to flow and eddy through my heart are precious to me. Every now and again my memory focuses on a special time long forgotten and I rejoice anew. For all of this, and much, much more, I thank you both from the bottom of my heart.
You are the greatest parents; I can’t imagine any better. Praise God for His grace that save you so many years ago. Your love and friendship are a constant source of comfort and joy. May the Lord in His mercy give you many more years of happiness together.
With all my love,
Brian
