Story Title: My Beloved Uncle
By: Cheri Ritchey Smith
One of my first memories of my uncle before I moved away from Indianapolis (which had to have been when I was 4, almost 5 years old) was when I went to visit my grandparents and he would hoist me up in the air, making me laugh and then took me out to see my grandfather’s prized rosebushes. Uncle Jim just had this spirit about him that made you know that he truly loved you. I have had the blessings of many more memories with my beloved uncle but this was my first. I believe this truly says something about this gentle spirit’s life in the way that he loved his family and the way he treated others, especially making a little child feel important! Years later, I saw this same interaction in my own sweet nieces and nephew and with my children in the way that Uncle Jim related to them – just the same as he had with me years ago. Rest in Peace sweet uncle.

To Nancy and Family,
I want you know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I know that Jim truly loved the Thanksgiving dinners at my house. He would always be so gracious and bestow many thanks at the end of a very “filling” day.
Jim was such a pleasure to talk to and a very caring man. Jim will be missed.
In my thoughts and prayers,
Rick

Norris R Hall says
I first met Jim Richie in 1959 as part of the Bell Labs Graduate program. I worked with him for 30 years. During that time I found Jim to be a man of integrity, creative, focused and persistent in pursuing his objectives. He had the unique ability to make you feel important while he was talking to you. It was an honor to work and to know Jim.

I worked with Jim from 70 to 77. He was an extremely talented engineer – a true Boilermaker. He was a team plarer, an idea maker and a fun guy. I am saddened to hear of his passing and am shure his family and colleagues will miss him.
