Henry Edgar Shannon, age 94, passed away February 1, 2006. Henry was born March 3, 1911, and the oldest of eight children. Henry was born to Silas and Mary (McCarey) Shannon on a farm near Oraville, Illinois. He was instrumental not only in assisting with the farm, but also in county and community activities. He was a timekeeper and foreman with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Jackson County, Illinois in the 1930s.Henry moved to Boulder, Colorado with his wife Edith Aileen Crain and family in 1944 where he resided until his retirement from Watts-Hardy Dairy at the age of 75. Edith preceded Henry in death in 1958, and he married Hazel Murphy, also originally from Murphysboro, in 1968. When Henry retired, they moved to Arnold, Missouri. After Hazel’s death in 2000, Henry moved to Indianapolis, Indiana to be closer to his children.Henry was preceded in death by brothers Ernest Shannon and Kenneth Shannon, and sisters Claudine Shannon and Wilma Shannon. He is survived by his children Betty Leverett, Harlan Shannon and Phyllis Currier, and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and by stepdaughters Jerry, Carol and Kathy and step-grandchildren, -great-grandchildren and -great-great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings are Verna Lee Noble, Kathryn Smith, and Claude Shannon, all of Murphysboro, Illinois.The calling is at 10:00 and the service at 11:00 on Monday, February 6 at the First Baptist Church, Murphysboro, Illinois.
