Helen Sneed Masten, 86, of Westfield, passed away September 22, 2013 with her family by her side. She was born on March 18, 1927 in Hardin County Illinois to James and Leona Sneed. She was one of six children. During World War II she and her family moved to Evansville, Indiana where members of her family helped in the construction of airplanes and war ships to assist in the war effort. Helen began work as a telephone operator at Indiana Bell in Evansville at the age of 18. After WWII she met and married Charles Leslie Harris of Evansville, Indiana. They later relocated to Dayton, Ohio where Helen continued her career with Ohio Bell and went on to retire in 1981 with 35 years of service. She was honored with lifetime membership in Communication Workers of America for her work as an officer in the union while with Ohio Bell. She also was a lifetime member of Pioneers of America, a volunteer network. Helen was a member of the Eastern Star and active in her church. Helen most treasured her family and Christ, her Lord. She is survived by her daughter Charlene Strebing (Harris), son-in-law Jeffrey Strebing and grandsons Andrew James and Jonathon (Jack) Henry Strebing of Noblesville, and nephew Jim Nevins of Scotia, New York. Visitation will be Wednesday September 25, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Westfield beginning at 12pm with a short service at 1:30. Interment will follow at Crownland Cemetary Noblesville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial donations be made to First Baptist Church of Westfield, 20101 Grassy Branch Rd. Westfield, Indiana 46074.

    Sorry about your mother. I have many fond memories of Aunt Helen growing up. She was good to me.

    In remember her as a good friend. I remember how nice she looked at Tim and Kathy’s wedding. She wore a beautiful long blue dress. She also was a great cook.
