Gilbert Gregory, age 88, died August 29, 2008. Gilbert was born on April 3, 1920 and was the youngest and last surviving of ten children born to Benjamin F and Mary B. Gregory. Gilbert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margery Jean Gregory, son Michael D. Gregory and two daughters, Cynthia A. Arnot and Cathy L. Costin. He was also preceded in death by daughter Jody L.Gregory. Gilbert also had four grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. Gilbert was employed for 31 years with Bridgeport Brass Company as a laboratory supervisor.Gilbert was a member of the American Legion and also the Camby Community Church.Gilbert was a proud veteran of World War II in the United States Air Force. Sgt Gregory served with the 769th Bomb Squadron in China, Burma and India. His last assignment was on Tinian Island in the Mariana Islands 1500 miles southeast of Hiroshima, Japan. Tinian Island was the deployment base for many bombing attacks on Japan including the Enola Gay (B-29 Bomber) that dropped the first atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. After World War II Gilbert was a member of the Indiana Air National Guard for several years.Funeral services will be held at the Camby Community Church, in Camby, Indiana on Wednesday, September 3, 2008. Visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. with the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest with military honors at Mooresville Cemetery.
