Date Of Birth: January 8, 1945
Date Of Death: March 4, 2012

Debbie Matanich 67, of Hagerstown returned home to her maker on March 4, 2012. She passed away peacefully at St. Vincent’s Hospice in Indianapolis following a three year battle with ALS. She was surrounded by family who were grateful for the opportunity to say their good-byes before she left. Debbie was born Deborah Marie Lawrence in Gary, Indiana on January 8, 1945, to Tommy and Doty Lawrence.

Debbie is survived by her husband Jeff, son Matt, daughters Kathy Seaton and Michelle Johnson, and seven beautiful grand daughters. She also has an older brother Tommy Lawrence Jr. of French Lick, Indiana.

Debbie met Jeff at Ball State University and were married for 42 years. She shared the joy of music, laughter, dance, passion for life, and a love of children and her Lord with all those who were fortunate enough to have known her. She taught elementary music for twenty five years and directed the adult and children’s choirs as well as hand bells at the First United Methodist Church in Hagerstown.

A celebration of her life will be held on March 12, at 2:30 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Hagerstown. Please dress casually. In lieu of flowers, Debbie requested donations to ALS Association of Indiana or the Music Department of First United Methodist Church in Hagerstown.

    Dear Jeff,
I just learned of Debbie’s death when I was chatting with Jaci N. I am happy to have met her. I remember her graciously hosting our motley crew for a staff retreat and her generous and helpful information about removing my old wallpaper. You and your family are in my thoughts.
    Sincerely,
    Cheryl
