Darlene P. Shafer, 73, went home to Heaven July 17, 2011 with her family at her side.
She was born April 20, 1938 in Danville, IL, the daughter of William H. and Coyita Duprey. She was raised in Danville and moved to Oklahoma when she married Carl W. Shafer. She spent 27 years as a military wife. Darlene was also a beauty instructor in Lawton, OK. She loved to crochet, knit, play bingo, and spend time with her children.
Survivors include her children, Shereen (William) Odom, William (Karen) Shafer, and Sheryl (Dean) Dalrymple; grandchildren, Carrie Michelle Lewis, William Bradley Odom, Carla Maxine Lewis, Thomas Aaron Shafer, Jennifer Marie Houseman, Chelsea Marie Shafer, Corey Wayne Shafer, Christopher Ryan Dalrymple, and Kyle Morgan Dalrymple; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters; and two brothers.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Ronald L. Shafer; and dear friends, Bill and Armand.
A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Harry W. Moore Funeral Care, Indianapolis, IN. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will take place at a later date in Oklahoma.

Darlene was my 2nd cousin ,Her sister Linda and I the same age, thought that it was such a big deal she would get all dressed up to go on a date. I will never forget how we thought she looked so beautiful. From her picture i”m sure she did. God Bless you and your family . Love ,cousin Sheila

Please accept my condolences for the loss of your mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. I know that Darlene was an outstanding mother who instilled the very best qualities in her family. I only know her daughter, Sheryl, but can base all the good things that can be said of Darlene based on what a loving, caring daughter she raised in Sheryll. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
