Date Of Birth: January 4, 1938
Date Of Death: August 30, 2011

Dr. Charles Robert McCune

Charles Robert (Charlie/Bob) McCune passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on August 30, 2011 after a yearlong battle with prostate cancer. He was born to Cathryn (Kitty) Coggeshall McCune and Warren Ford McCune on January 3, 1938 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

A 1956 graduate of Broad Ripple High School, Bob attended Butler University before completing his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University. He then went on to graduate with the second class of Purdue University’s School of Veterinary Medicine in 1964. Bob began his veterinary career in the Quad Cities where he married Jean Wessel. The McCunes returned to Indianapolis to raise their three children until Jeannie’s untimely death in 1982. In 1985, Bob married his wife of nearly 26 years Priscilla Baxter. They made a wonderful life together breeding his pride and joy pedigreed Akitas and Border Terriers, their four-legged children.

Dr. McCune practiced veterinary medicine for 43 years in Indianapolis, assisting clients until 4 weeks prior to his death. He was a career member of CIVMA, IVMA and AVMA. Dr. McCune dutifully gave 35 years of service to the Lawrence Exchange serving a term as president and Exchangite of the Year. He was also an avid history buff and member of the Historical Society, a sailing aficionado, dedicated grandfather and addicted to his golf game.

His consuming charm, sharp wit, and infectious humor will be sorely missed by every life he touched. We are the luckiest to have loved him.

He is survived by his wife Priscilla, children Julie McCune, Kathy Green (Ronnie), and Chad McCune, grandchildren Ellie McCune, Jacob Green and Logan Green, sister Joyce Sommers (Bob Davis), brother Michael McCune (Sandy) all of Indianapolis, and brother Kenny McCune (Caroline) of Oklawaha, FL. He leaves behind a crew of adoring nieces, nephews, cousins, and a lifetime of loyal friends.

A celebration of life will be held at the Indianapolis Art Center on September 10 at 11am. Donations may be made to either the Lawrence Exchange Club (Prevention of Child Abuse) at P.O. Box 26851 Lawrence, IN 46226 or Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic at 1721A Pleasant Street Noblesville, IN 46060.
