Mooresville–Betty Lea Peoples Smith Burns, 89, passed away Saturday, November 27, 2010 at home.
She was born in Indianapolis November 21, 1921, the daughter of Ira and Opal (Hornaday) Peoples. She graduated from Arsenal Tech High School in 1939. Betty married James Smith in 1942, and they owned Smith Pharmacy in Indianapolis together. They were both charter members of Southport Christian Church. James passed away in July, 2002. Betty remarried in 2007 to Cecil Burns. She and Cecil had been high school sweethearts.
She is survived by her daughter, Jenny (Bob) Burns; three granddaughters, Megan and Brooke Burns and Sara (Brandon) Kingery; one great-granddaughter, Addison Kingery; and two step-daughters, Martha (Bob) Chapman and Cheri Schmitz.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Southport Christian Church, 201 E. Epler Ave., 46227, with Rev. Doug Lofton officiating. Burial has taken place at Washington Park East Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the donor’s favorite charity or Southport Christian Church.
