David Lee Dunn, 20, passed away unexpectedly of heart failure on March 14, 2015. David graduated 8th in his class from Lawrence Central High School in 2012 where he was an accomplished violinist. He was an honors student at IUPUI where he was studying business. David loved music, writing poetry, painting and math. David is the beloved son of James and Leslie Dunn and the cherished brother of Lyndsay and Tony Rogers, and James Dunn, Jr. (fiancée Audra Lawler). David brought light and joy and a sense of humor everywhere he went. He will be missed more than words can ever express but we know he is in heaven making people laugh. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, with a brief service and time of remembrances shared from 6-7 p.m. at Indiana Funeral Care, Harry Moore Chapel, 8151 Allisonville Rd., Indianapolis, IN. Memorial contributions can be made to The Autism Society of Indiana, 3951 N. Meridian Street, Suite 220, Indianapolis, IN 46208. Arrangements: Indiana Funeral Care and Crematory

Tom and Jan Smith says
Jim & Leslie: It seems only yesterday the focus was entering college. And the most recent image we have is of David sitting and reading a book while his dad worked on our plumbing. The reading would be interrupted occasionally by a request to fetch a tool. While David would return quickly with the requested item, it was not difficult to tell that the book held more interest than solving a water problem. That is a cherished memory, one of a young man expanding his mind. Nonetheless, he was also learning the practicality of earning a living under his father’s care. You were fortunate to have him in your lives, even though such a brief time. And he was fortunate to have you for loving, caring, parents. May you sift carefully through all the memories, saving all the good and fun ones, and cherish them forever. He was a delightful young man. With much affection, Tom and Jan

Dear Leslie and Family,
My prayers at this time of sorrow.
David’s heart sang to him with poetry and truth.
And may these be his wings allowing him peace at other elevations now that his soul no longer bears the burden of his body.
Words often fail.
I am sorry there is not more
I can offer but the silence of caring, even at this distance.
Noah
Erin Enoch says
David was such an amazing kid. I first met him at the PA institute back when we were in 9th grade. He was always talking about orchestra and I was always talking to him about Band. I think the best moment we had was this one time a group a students were cussing obnoxiously and david and I were around and since we both were short and looked young they were all like “omg guys we gotta watch our language there’s kids around” we just looked at each other like we’re in HS and you guys are in middle school. Lol. All throughout high school we had class together and we would joke and laugh together. He was such a smart kid I always knew he would go off and do big things. He had such high goals and he was in a lot of AP classes in HS. We shared some great moments at LC. I couldn’t make it to his funeral because I’m studying abroad in Chile but my heart in prayers go out to his family. Your son was such a blessing on my life. He will be missed
Marion Hallum says

Mike says
I want to first apologize for taking so long to speak about David. I found out last Wednesday and once I was told that I missed his services I was pretty upset with myself. I neglected to write on here for so long because I felt it would seem disingenuous, but the more I thought about it, I realized how selfish I was being. David choose to share apart of his life with me and its my responsibility to share those moments with anyone who is struggling with his loss.
Like many of the people here, I’ve known David since high school. I can’t say we were friends, but I can say I noticed him more than anyone else. He was so incredibly smart and that coupled with his amazing personality made him someone I wanted to know and be like. It wasn’t until we both started at IUPUI that I got to know the David that everyone here enjoyed. Me and David became very close last year, our schedules always seemed to match up perfectly and I found myself having coffee with him almost every morning and seeing him almost afternoon for lunch. I can’t possibly list every time David made laugh or every time we engaged in long talks about pretty much anything. But I can say that David was the kind of guy that could make an interesting conversation out of just about anything, no matter what it was.
Everyone has their own favorite stories about David and mine would have to be one morning a few semesters ago. We were having coffee as we did most days and David was telling me this long story and he was throwing his arms up and just giving this story as much energy as he possibly could. He got so into it that he didn’t notice that the coffee he had in his hand had spilling all over his jacket! I thought he had noticed and was playing it cool so I didn’t say anything at first, plus I was so engaged in the story I pretty much forgot myself! It wasn’t until he was done that I pointed it out and he just started laughing his head off. He was sort of embarrassed but that didn’t keep him from smiling about it.
One thing I admired about David was that he never let his issues define or destroy him. He had his problems and was dealt a pretty bad hand, but he embraced his flaws and wasn’t afraid to tell anyone who he really was.
With every person he met, he changed their lives in one way or another. I can honestly say that I am a better person because I knew him. I wanted to be smart like him, funny like him, and most of all, happy like him. All I can do, all we can do, is remember the person he was and never forget how he made us feel.
David, you were a smart, funny, amazing guy who took everyday one step at a time. You were shaping your life into something you loved and I can only hope that one day I will have the strength to face my problems with as much courage as you did yours. I’m going to miss you buddy.
-Mike
