Donald R. Hamilton, 76, entered into rest July 13, 2019. He was a b loved father, grandfather, nurse, Viet Nam veteran and member of the Cherokee Nation.
He was born October 2, 1942 in Vinita, OK to Joe and Estella (nee Newnum). He attended Oklahoma University (Go Sooners!) and received is BS in Nursing, after which he entered the Army and served in Viet Nam, Hawaii and several stateside bases.
After discharge from the Army he entered Public Health Nursing and worked for the State Board of Health for the state of Arkansas. He earned an MBA from the University of Arkansas and an MPH from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Go Tar Heels!) while working there. He then accepted a position with the Marion County Health Department in Indianapolis, IN. He rose to Bureau Chief of Community Health Nursing and remained until 1995. He completed his working career at Anthem in a variety of positions and retired in 2010.
He was pre-deceased by his parents. He leaves his wife Toni (nee Ausetts); sons Joseph (Susan) of Lombard, IL and David of Indianapolis and daughter Dorothy (Donna) of Miami, FL to mourn his passing. He had three grandchildren: Kazmira, Nina, and Ethan also.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 24, 2019 at 11 am at St Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 535 E Edgewood Ave. In keeping with his wishes please come casually dressed. His favorite Charities were: Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, the Indianapolis Humane Society and the Indiana DNR forestry project should you wish to donate in lieu of flowers.
