On Sunday, March 18, 2018, Nancy Jean Bruce passed away suddenly at the age of 74.
A native of Indianapolis, Nancy was born on February 26, 1944, to Smysor and Jean (Hay) Bruce. In spite of wheelchair confinement and difficulty communicating due to a lifelong disability from Cerebral Palsy, Nancy was an inspiration to all who knew her, and lived a full and independent life. She derived great joy from her beloved cat, Hazel, and delighted in completing jigsaw puzzles, crafting, knitting, interacting with friends and family, and getting out into the community. Nancy especially enjoyed the outdoors and could often be found appreciating a sunny day outside her apartment.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Smysor and Jean (Hay) Bruce, and brother, David Bruce. Nancy is survived by her nieces, Kim Staley (husband Clair) and Robyn Blair (husband Lance); and nephews, Tim Bruce and Brett Bruce. She is also survived by ten great-nieces and great-nephews: Abigail Bruce, Olivia Ritota, Amy Bruce, Trevor Fabbri, Brittany Fabbri, Michael Trittin, Sierra Blair, Amelia Blair, Mary Trittin and Haley Vivilo. Also surviving Nancy are her long-time, loving and faithful caregivers, Tina Mitchell and Joelee Smith. Tina and Joelee were not only caregivers; they were good friends and a true blessing to Nancy and her family.
A service honoring Nancy’s life will be held on Sunday, April 8, at 2:00pm, in the Café of Nora Commons, 8905 Evergreen Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Ventures in Living, 60 Professional Court, Lafayette, IN 47905.
