Thomas Edsel Busick, 69, passed away on Saturday March 25, 2017 at his home surrounded by those he loved most after a short courageous battle with cancer. Tom was born in Lima, OH on April 19, 1947 and moved at a young age to Richmond, IN where he would graduate from Richmond High School in 1966. He earned his Bachelors Degree from Urbana University in Urbana, OH and went on to receive his Masters Degree from Indiana University. Tom married the love of his life Connie Matheny Busick in 1971 and they remained in Indianapolis where he taught Orientation & Mobility at the Indiana School for the Blind for 31 years before retiring in 2003. He left a lasting impression on many of his students who still kept in touch after his retirement. He was an active member of the Admiral’s R/C Model Boat Club, Cushman Club of American, the Vintage Motorbike Club, Vintage Japanese Motorbike Club, American Motorcycle Association, the NRA and a former member of the Indianapolis Corvette Club. Tom had a smile and laugh that you just couldn’t forget, and an uncanny ability to make friends wherever he went. He could often be found hitting up garage sales with his poodle sidekick Gunner. He was a true one-of-a-kind who enjoyed spending his time with his family, helping out his neighbors and collecting unusual and bizarre treasures. He leaves behind his wife of 45 years Connie Matheny Busick and two children – Abby Busick of Nashville, TN and Will Busick of Orlando, FL.
He is also survived by his mother Ella Busick of Indianapolis, sister Susan Busick of Richmond and sister-in-law Kim Cole of Miamisburg, OH and special friend Janet Gordon, and preceded in death by his father Edsel Busick.
Our family would like to invite everyone to a Celebration of Life that will be held at Indiana Funeral Care, Harry W. Moore Chapel, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46250, on Sunday, April 2, 2017 with a short service beginning at 1pm, after which our family will receive guests until 4pm. Tom was always such a great guy to be around. One of Bob’s and my favorite quotes from Tom was at his house one time. We were looking at trains. Tom looked over at Bob and said everything he owned was for sale except his wife and kids….and they were negotiable!!!!! Though I haven’t seen him much, I have enjoyed his “adult antics” while on facebook!!!! His family is in our prayerful thoughts.
Lisa Dick says

Jay and Marge Niemann says
I will miss Tom immensely. We were so much alike! We traded “junk” for decades. Both retired teachers too. He must have been greatly blessed by God to have had the patience to work with the blind for thirty-one years!
Take care of him Lord – He’s one of your best.

My late husband Philip Rowe was a good friend of Tom’s. Philip along with Pat Soja used to eat lunch with Tom every day when they taught at the Indiana school for the blind and visually impaired. I have heard many stories over the years about Tom . He was a unique and inspiring individual. I believe he was loved by all who knew him. May you be comforted with the peace that only God can bring to you at a time like this.
